Edris Stannus, The Irish Doyenne of Ballet —
This publication celebrates the life and work of Edris Stannus, more famously known as Ninette de Valois. A highly accomplished female figure many considered to have been written out of Irish history. The publication explores her very significant contribution to Irish ballet, despite many believing ballet is not part of our culture. The aim of this book is to demonstrate that Ireland does have a history of ballet and that it is part of our culture, and has been for a long time. It also reminisces on how this woman born in County Wicklow went on to set up The Royal Ballet, a well renowned company in the ballet sphere. Her contribution to ballet, worldwide, is remarkable yet she has become a blind spot in our history with very few people knowing her name. This publication was shortlisted for the Best Student Book in the Best British Book Design and Production Awards.
